im mad today and im gonna rant here~
i saw this post on reddit
a lawyer. never coded anything in their life. already has over a thousand lines of code and started yesterday. then someone in the comments says theyre also building ai focused for lawyers.
how beautiful right. such innovation. such future.
except no. im disgusted. (¬_¬)
what if it were other professions?
ok, now that a lawyer can code with ai, why not let a cook argue court cases with ai? a cartographer prescribe meds with ai? a driver do market analysis and investment recommendations with ai? a gardener be a french interpreter and translator using ai, even without knowing french? a semiliterate person make teaching materials using ai?
wouldnt that be equally bizarre and unfair? definitely.
but with programming it became the new normal.
the market was already saturated
anyone in the field already knows. junior dev jobs already disappeared. the market was super saturated even before ai blew up.
and now comes this vibe coding crowd, people who never wrote a hello world in their life, have zero idea how a computer works, and are out there "programming" commercial apps with ai.
this isnt programming. and the worst part is these people are gonna mess up the market for those who studied, who debugged, who read documentation until falling asleep, who know whats happening under the hood.
the disrespect no one talks about
no one accepts ai art without criticism anymore. say u make art with ai and someone will accuse u of disrespecting artists, of stealing, of being anti-creativity.
but with code its different. with code it became normal. became "innovation". became "democratization of technology". the layperson who never opened a terminal in their life is out there "developing systems" and everyone thinks its beautiful.
i think this is disrespectful to those in the field. to those who actually studied. to those who stay up all night fixing bugs, understanding architecture, learning how the machine thinks.
i am pro ai
just to be clear, im not crazy enough to say ai is bad. i think ai is genuinely revolutionary. i use it every day. it changed my productivity.
but theres a huge difference between a dev using ai as a tool to speed up what they already know how to do, and a layperson using ai to pretend they know how to program.
when its someone who never saw code in their life, doesnt know what a variable is, doesnt know what a server is, doesnt understand logic at all... i feel disrespected. i feel like all my effort and study is worth less than a pretty prompt.
ai is already at a point where laypeople can actually make functional applications. and this isnt ais fault. its our fault for normalizing this as if its the same thing as programming.
its over for devs
the market was already trash. now its gonna get worse. more and more people with zero knowledge will enter the market with ai-made apps, charging cheaper, accepting anything, and companies will love it bc its cheaper.
and us actual devs, who studied, who dedicated ourselves, will have to compete with people who cant even explain their own code.
im not saying stop using ai. im saying stop pretending that using ai without understanding anything is the same thing as being a programmer.
its not. it never will be.
